Who knew that the usually carefree and jovial world of Bel Air could be so heavy with entrepreneurial evolution and progressive character journeys? Well, that’s precisely what we got in Bel Air Season 3, Episode 2.

Will and Carlton’s Entrepreneurial Endeavors

The episode primarily revolves around Carlton and Will struggling to come up with an entrepreneurial concept to pitch to Quentin for funding. Their idea? A personal brand that includes merch and podcasts, aimed at uplifting blackness in various spaces to support aspiring black people in finding success in different industries. However, they’re going to need to refine this idea a bit. Personal brands are all well and good, but they’re not always the most scalable things.

It’s interesting to see them struggling so hard to come up with an idea, despite being given this opportunity due to Will’s familiarity with Quentin. It feels somewhat ironic, considering how many young, disenfranchised black kids already have ideas but lack the opportunities Will and Carlton have been handed.

Carlton’s Sobriety Journey

This episode also explores Carlton’s sobriety journey post-recovery house. He needs to work on cultivating self-worth and self-respect. However, his interactions with Amira, a fellow addict, are concerning. Amira’s erratic behavior and apparent self-destructive spirit make her a dangerous influence on Carlton. She’s an energy vampire, latching onto Carlton’s newfound confidence and honesty. I’m worried about what she’s going to present to Carlton, but I’m excited about the story of a young person struggling with addiction that Bel Air is about to deliver.

Phillip’s Professional Struggles

Phillip is also on an entrepreneurial journey, relaunching the practice and partnership he established last season. However, he’s working with Erica, who is clearly still smitten with him. This situation is problematic, as Phillip seems to enjoy the attention from Erica, despite having a successful and attractive wife. Erica’s longing for Phillip is evident, and I believe she needs to confess to Vivian about their kiss and clear her conscience.

Jazz and Hillary’s Complicated Relationship

Jazz and Hillary also continue to complicate things. Jazz keeps showing up at Banks’ functions, despite his ego and insecurities causing friction in their relationship. Hillary, on the other hand, seems to be rushing into her forever ever after with her engagement to LaMarcus. She needs to slow down, sort out her feelings for Jazz, and focus on her professional goals.

Jackie’s Return

Then there’s Jackie, who I truly cannot stand. She’s back, wanting a letter of recommendation from Vivian for Juilliard and a job at the country club. Her constant presence and her insistence on maintaining a connection with Will is unsettling. It’s giving stalker vibes, and it’s absolutely not okay.
