Bel Air Season 3: Unpacking the Drama

Now, I skipped season two, but we’re back with some week-to-week episode breakdowns. And let me tell y’all, this first episode was a great start to what I anticipate will be an action packed and drama filled season.

Will’s Journey in Bel Air

We opened up the season with Will and Lisa, and y’all know how much I adore them as a couple. It’s been a rocky road, but we’re back, baby. Will is finding his footing, making friends, and building community at the country club. In contrast to how he started season two, sleeping on Jazz’s couch, he’s now comfortably fitting into this upper echelon affluent world.

It’s interesting to see how Will has transitioned from being a fish out of water in Bel Air to finally feeling at home. He’s moved away from his West Philly roots and hoop dreams, and it’s not without its complications. For instance, when he decides to skip out on playing AAU to pursue a business opportunity, it feels like he’s running from parts of himself because he is learning those same things may have come from his father.

Will’s Father, Lou

Speaking of his father, Lou, their interactions in this season are going to be impactful. The emotions, the frustration, the anger, the love that is so clearly communicated in all of their interactions is truly incredible. However, Lou’s short-sightedness and ego become evident, especially when he criticizes Will for accepting handouts. Lou needs to realize that his son deserves opportunities too, and he shouldn’t have to struggle for the sake of struggling.

Carlton’s Struggles

Moving on to Carlton, he’s fresh out of rehab and strikes up a romance with Amira. While I understand the appeal, I can’t help but be cautious. Carlton has shown that he’s easily influenced and places too much power outside of himself. He needs to learn to validate his own existence, rather than seeking validation from others.

Carlton also struggles with jealousy towards Will. Even though they’re partners in a business venture, I can’t help but feel a sense of competition brewing between them.

Hillary’s Engagement

Now, let’s talk about Hillary. She’s engaged to be married, but only announces it publicly after Jazz confronts her. I can’t help but feel like she’s running from something, and I’m interested to see how her story unfolds this season.

Vivian and Phil’s Relationship

As for Vivian and Phil, something’s off. Vivian is avoiding Phil, and I can’t help but wonder if she’s checking out of their relationship. Phil, on the other hand, seems to be taking a back seat this season. He’s showing up beautifully for Carlton and Will, but he’s also showing signs of fear and uncertainty.

Ashley’s Role

Finally, let’s talk about Ashley. She’s not playing around this season. She’s calling out the fallacies in the family, especially Carlton. I think the Banks family needs a truth teller like Ashley, and I’m excited to see how her role evolves this season.

Final Thoughts on Bel Air Season 3

In conclusion, Bel Air Season 3 is off to a strong start. The characters are dealing with real-life issues, and the storyline is diving deep into themes of self-actualization and interpersonal relationships. I’m looking forward to seeing how the characters evolve and how their stories unfold.
