‘Beyond The Gates’ Episode 75 Recap: The Love Triangle Nobody Asked For Continues

We’re BACK, Baby! (And So Is The Drama)

After episodes 73 and 74 weren’t giving what needed to be gave, Beyond The Gates is finally back on track with episode 75! This episode delivers exactly what I’ve been waiting for – genuine movement in these storylines instead of the same old recycled drama.

And yes, we do have a good amount of the Ashley and Derek situation, which I’m going to talk about first because y’all already know how I feel. I’ve explained ad nauseum how bland they are, but I love that we’re finally moving in a direction where we’re getting to the nitty-gritty. Ashley, what is it? Do you not want to be with this man? He’s supposedly so perfect. Y’all are supposedly so healthy and happy. But it’s never working out, and we’re spending WAY too much time talking about your relationship.

Ashley’s Audacity and Naomi’s Loyalty Test

The way Ashley came in hot with Naomi – if I didn’t like her before, I definitely don’t like her now. Who is this white woman and how did she get into the country club? Aren’t you poor? Let’s be honest, you and your mama were one of the have-nots, and these are the haves. You happen to be best friends with one of the haves.

I was like, “Somebody get this white woman outta here!” She’s not a member! What is she doing? She got some spare parts for a damn assistant so she can track down Naomi because Naomi wasn’t answering her phone? How dare she! Naomi wasn’t answering because she’s sick of you and your too-bright ass man!

Y’all be talking about me so bad in the comment section, and I’ll be giving y’all reasoning, so go ahead and keep it going. I don’t like her. The way she came at Naomi like, “Why would you do this? Why would you do that?” Girl, Naomi is constantly pushing the Ashley and Derek propaganda of how great y’all are. Y’all might not be as great as Naomi and Jacob, but apparently y’all are right under it. You’re “so happy” and you “love each other so much” – he’s the “perfect guy,” he’s “so amazing.” Well, why the hell would your best friend go help your goofy-ass man pick out a ring if she thought you’d say no?

The Shackles of Ashley Romance Hell

It ain’t Naomi’s job to know whether you want to say yes or no. That’s YOUR job. Her job is just to make sure you don’t get an ugly-ass ring on your finger! Can we be for real?

Naomi took the blame, and I wish she wouldn’t have. Honestly, Ashley and Naomi’s friendship is giving me Vanessa and Nicole vibes, and I don’t understand either one. I do not understand how these amazing, wonderful, Black, excellent-ass women are best friends with these mediocre chicks like Ashley, Holly, and Vanessa. I don’t understand it for the life of me.

Ashley did apologize later because she knew her ass was dead wrong. But the audacity to confront Naomi like that, as if her relationship is a Naomi problem? That’s also a big issue in y’all’s relationship – you and Derek keep running to everybody else! If this was a little more contained and y’all would just have your little vanilla, bland-ass love and keep your issues between yourselves, maybe I could tolerate it.

But we have to watch Andre big you up and pat you up and coddle you, and we have to watch Naomi big him up and coach him and tell him what to do in the relationship. Everybody’s gotta take all this time to sit around y’all’s bland-ass love. Nobody got time for that!

Andre, Dani, and the Inevitable Triangle

Meanwhile, Andre takes his ass over to Dani’s house to let her know he ran into her daughter Amy. They get to talking about how they need to come out with their relationship. Dani’s like, “But then I’m going to get played again because men love to play me.” Andre responds, “Well, I’m not him. Why would you think that?” Well, is there anybody else? That’s when Andre gets all stuttery and silent. You ain’t saying no! You ain’t saying no!

I’m on Dani’s side 100%. Do I want her to be in a relationship with Andre? Yes. Do I want them to give it a go? Yes. Do I think they’ll actually work out? Yes. But for the life of me, I can’t figure out what these writers are doing with Ashley. So I’m nervous for Dani – get behind me, girl, because this man is setting up to hurt you, and then me and him gonna have to fight!

Dani is literally going out of her way, dragging her feet, making sure they don’t move too fast. Then Ashley goes and throws herself into Andre’s arms, and he goes right after the vanilla-ass white lady because he hasn’t figured out his feelings for her either. Meanwhile, Ashley’s over here denying proposals from her Humphrey Bogart-ass husband-to-be! I want to be released from the shackles of Ashley hell immediately!

Martin’s Mystery Deepens

In other news, Martin confronts a busboy in this episode. He gets all physical, makes him happy, gives him $20, and repeats some saying. He gets triggered again but then lets it go. Martin, you need to get it together!

As I said in my last episode breakdown, Detective Marcel is in on it. He has put it together. When Smitty and Andre debrief when they get back home, we actually see Andre have a moment. In the flashback or nightmare visual that he gets, we see Detective Marcel, who probably handled whatever’s going on, so he helped cover it up as well.

I’m assuming when we see Vernon go meet Detective Marcel, I’m gonna be like, “Oh! Vernon, we might have to cut ties.” It’s giving dirty cop. It’s giving police corruption. But we don’t get much reference to what actually happened. Beyond The Gates is literally dangling this car incident right in front of our faces. At least we’re getting something – we’re moving in some direction with a little bit of new information.

Chelsea’s “Love” After 48 Hours

Chelsea comes forward and reveals to her mom that she’s in love again. She’s just so excited. Chelsea is 48 HOURS – it’s been 48 HOURS – thinking she’s in love again. It’s been 48 hours! You had ONE date in the house, not even outside. Y’all ate Chinese food, hunched on each other, and immediately after you’re done, you pick up your phone. But you’re “so in love” with this girl, so “enamored” by this girl?

Chelsea, you’re giving deranged. Maybe you’re giving deranged! I’ve been trying to give this girl a chance with every new episode, but there’s nothing I see that makes me want to root for her. There’s nothing I see her do that makes me feel like, “Oh, Chelsea!” She is a menace in the making.

I know Dani’s got to support her daughter and be the best mother she can be, but your daughter is a damn menace, and she’s going to hurt Madison badly. Madison, I love that you spoke up about her picking up the phone and not being connected after you just had an intimate moment. But this is a red flag, baby! These are what red flags look like. We need to move accordingly instead of ignoring them when they present themselves.

Doug’s Pathetic Power Play

What else happened? Doug tries to get all big and bad at the casino after Vanessa busted wide open with her negotiations. They come to an agreement – Doug bumps it up to 20%. I feel like he watched them have sex and then came in after like, “Oh, what’s going on here?” Which is weird.

Then he wants to get all big and bad with Joey as if Joey won’t beat his ass up, put a bullet in his head, and hide him behind a building. Doug, please! You’ve already been punked. You’re trying to stand up now while still being weak.

If you don’t have a whole personality transplant, I’m gonna need you to step back, collect your commission that your wife negotiated for you, and let her continue to cheat on you, because y’all are getting on my damn nerves. Make this lady be loyal and faithful to you, or get your marriage together, or get a divorce! One of the two! But hovering in this stupid space with him kinda putting his foot down but still being a punk? No! I hate it. It’s annoying.

Give me more Billy and Haley, because y’all are spending way too much time with these losers! I can’t take it!
