‘Beyond The Gates’ Episode 70 Recap: Baby Steps and Broken Hearts – Dani’s Honest Journey

Andre and Dani: Morning Confessions and Painful Truths

Y’all, Episode 70 of Beyond The Gates might have been a mild one, but it still gave us plenty to chew on. My favorite part? That beautiful waking up scene between Dani and Andre. They love giving us these intimate morning moments between them, don’t they? And you know what? I ain’t complaining because I absolutely adore these two together.

What made this scene particularly special was Dani’s brutal honesty. She tells Andre, “Everything in me wants to give myself to you. However, I think there’s something broke in me after Bill.” That is some of the realest stuff she has ever said—and that’s saying a lot, because this girl has been honest from jump.

That’s one thing I’ve always loved about Dani’s character. Yes, she’s Captain Crash Out. Yes, Miss Girl is doing a lot—hell, most of the time doing too damn much—but Dani always keeps it real. She wears her heart on her sleeve, and everything you get from her is rooted in honesty and truth. In a world of characters moving around with questionable motives and deplorable thoughts, it’s refreshing to have someone like Dani who leans into her honesty, almost to a fault.

The Healing Process: What Getting Over Heartbreak Actually Looks Like

When Dani reveals her feelings to Andre, there’s shame in her voice. You can hear it when she says, “How pathetic am I that I can’t get over my ex-husband when you’re sitting right here?” But she speaks her truth anyway.

This is what I want to point out when we see these moments on the show. Some viewers are quick to say, “Oh my God, this girl is stuck on stupid” or “She can’t get over this man,” but we’re missing the point. This is what the process of getting over heartbreak actually looks like. It’s being honest about where you are, about your feelings and thoughts, and articulating them.

When you hide from your feelings or run from them, that’s when you wind up stuck in the past or “stuck on stupid” over a man. But when you start articulating and processing everything that’s going on with you around a past relationship, that’s when you can finally release and make peace. I’m going to be here with Dani as long as it damn takes, and hopefully Andre will be too.

At the end of the episode, we see them holding hands before Dani pulls back, saying “baby steps.” Then we see her for the first time at Orphey Genes, sitting across from Andre. It’s like chef’s kiss! We’re moving in the right direction, even if we’re moving at a snail’s pace, baby.

Hospital Drama: Dani Rises Above the Pettiness

We also get to see Dani visit Bill again at the hospital. Regardless of Hayley’s shady remarks, Dani walks in and keeps it cute. She stays focused because she’s genuinely worried about Bill’s health.

Yes, we know internally she still wants Bill back on some level, but I think the more comfort and desire she finds with Andre, the easier it becomes for her to honor her feelings for Bill in terms of not wanting him to die, while also recognizing she’s possibly found something better with Andre.

I’m not even mad seeing her pop up at the hospital. What speaks volumes is how she’s not taking the bait or throwing quick jabs at Hayley. She’s not trying to make Hayley feel uncomfortable—that’s happening naturally because the aura that comes with Dani Dupree is something Hayley’s already uncomfortable with. That’s her own insecurities; she’s gonna have to go talk to Jesus about that.

Dani is moving 100% prim and proper. She’s literally there like, “Doctor, what’s the prescription? Okay, he needs to follow that. Whatever the doctor’s orders are, you two go ahead and do it.” No matter that they’re trying to shake her, no matter that Hayley is there, Dani stays focused.

When it’s life or death, it’s a whole different conversation. When Bill’s back up to fighting weight, when he can stand on his own two feet, when he’s good and well—then it’s back on his neck. But until then, she’s not trying to add stress, only support.

Naomi’s Misplaced Guilt and a Hair Rant

Now let’s talk about Naomi feeling responsible for her father’s stroke. Oh baby, the way some of these characters stress me out, taking on blame that doesn’t belong to them! I’m glad Vernon was able to set her straight, but the fact that we had to spend this episode with her ducking and dodging her dad, needing Jacob and Vernon to reaffirm, “Girl, you are NOT responsible for your dad’s damn stroke”?

If anything, it’s Bill’s eating habits. He’s the one who decided to leave his wife and marry a girl who’s barely older than his daughter. He’s the one who brought all types of ridiculous, disrespectful energy not only to his wife but to the entire community. Not to mention, he’s downright diabolical in his own right outside of their messy personal life.

Any stress that Bill Hamilton brought his way, Naomi, was NOT your damn fault. The fact that she even considered it for a moment? Man, please.

And y’all, I ain’t gonna hold you—I hate this week’s look on Naomi. I’ve been trying to bite my tongue, but I prefer her natural look. Why are they taking it to a more straightened style? When they first introduced this wig on her, I was pissed because it wasn’t natural like she’s been. I want them to go back to the curly fro, back to her and Eva being the natural girls on the show.

Family Drama, Chicago Bound, and Ashley’s Longing Looks

What else happened in this episode? We didn’t see Kat at all. No Dana, no Eva, no Nicole, nobody. But we did see Anita finally put the boys to rest as she and the group decide they’re going to come back together and make their friendship work for this reunion.

Anita’s headed to Chicago so they can start practicing. She needs to get back to her roots, to the meat and potatoes of where she came from, to ground herself in what made her who she was before she became Anita Dupree. So she packed her bags with a plan: Vernon can visit on weekends, but he’s staying behind to reassure the family.

I don’t even think Anita knows Bill is in the hospital. She’s been so caught up in her drama, and Vernon has been insulating her so much that she has no idea her family is in peril. She doesn’t know her grandchildren are worried about their dad, or that Dani is running back and forth to the hospital—let alone that Dani is seeing Andre. There was even that moment where Vernon popped up at Dani’s house and they almost got caught, but he got called away to help Naomi before Dani had to explain why Andre was there.

What I want Beyond The Gates to do is get on with it when it comes to Andre and Ashley. Ashley is dialing up her longing looks at Andre, even watching him get on the elevator with Dani like, “Girl, what the hell is going on?” The preview shows her going on a date with Derek, and it looks like he might propose. She’ll probably say no.

What I don’t want to happen is for Dani to finally get to a place where she’s ready to throw herself into Andre’s arms, publicly be his woman, establish a healthy relationship—only for Ashley to come out the woodworks as “the one Andre really wanted.” Then suddenly Dani’s taking a back seat again? That would be me and you, Andre. I swear, if that happens!

Especially because Ashley ain’t even all that! What is it about her? Y’all have had 70 episodes to tell me what about this woman is attractive aside from her hair. What about her is interesting? What is making Andre’s whole axis gravitate toward her? What is it? If I missed it, please tell me in the comments because I need to understand.

Beyond The Gates better show us the greatness that is going to be Dani Dupree and Andre Richardson over Ashley “completely diabolical” Morgan.

Shout out to Dr. Chinni though—she’s going to be doing Bill’s procedures, getting him all the way together, and definitely being the one who’s like, “Sorry, you gotta listen to me because I’m the boss of you.” As she should!
