‘Beyond The Gates’ Episode 69 Recap: Kat’s Masterplan Unfolds

Kat Richardson: Criminal Mastermind When She Needs to Be?

In episode 69 of Beyond The Gates, Kat pulled off the most brilliant scheme I’ve seen on this show. After stealing that helmet and gloves from Eva’s hotel room , she didn’t just turn them in to Jacob like I initially thought she might. No, she played a much smarter game.

Kat went to Leslie’s house claiming she wanted a truce, but her real plan was pure genius. She cracked open a window so she could return later, plant the evidence back in Leslie’s house, and then tip off Jacob to search there again. This way, the evidence gets discovered legally, with no chain of custody issues that would get it thrown out in court.

I love that this girl is actually using her brain! She’s been on a mission, and while she’s done too much at times, this plan was just enough. The fact that Eva wasn’t going to do it—didn’t have the heart to bring her mama to justice—makes Kat’s actions even more necessary.

Eva’s Apology Tour: Too Little, Too Late?

Speaking of Eva, we finally got to see Nicole come over to visit her, questioning Eva about why she’s talking to Laura and whether she’s working another plan with her mother. This opens the door for Eva to apologize deeply to Nicole, saying how sorry she is for everything they did.

But here’s my thing: all these “sorries” don’t mean much without actual action. If you’re genuinely sorry, bring your menace of a mother to justice instead of still protecting her! Nicole remains pure of heart, accepting Eva’s apology without giving ultimatums about Dana/Leslie, but the implication is clear—and I’m saying the quiet part out loud for Miss Girl.

I don’t really know where Eva’s character goes once Dana is actually locked up, but I’ve got videos coming to explore these storylines, so make sure you’ve turned on your notifications!

Derek Finally Does Something Interesting

Let me tell you about Derek’s bland self finally doing something worthwhile! Early in the episode, he decides to talk to Andre and then Jacob because he didn’t like how Leslie was talking to Ashley in the last episode.

I’m like, “Finally, Humphrey Bogart! You’re doing something with your time other than mourning over this woman who doesn’t want you!” Granted, all this effort is probably going to end with Ashley in Andre’s arms anyway, but at least Derek’s being somewhat interesting for once.

It’s the most tolerable I’ve seen him on screen, actually having an objective that isn’t just sucking all the skin off Ashley’s lips. He and Jacob head down to OPJ’s, create a little moment, and do a little skit while Leslie’s there. She only gets uncomfortable when Kat joins the party and then leaves. It made for a cute moment, so I’ll take it.

Bill Hamilton’s Hospital Drama

Bill Hamilton’s health situation is now official—he’s had a stroke and is still trying to run around the hospital! What part of “stroke” doesn’t this man understand? He came in first with a mini-stroke, now with a full-on stroke. Does he want a heart attack next?

He’s too busy trying to escape while barking orders at people until Dani Dupree walks in. Once she appears, suddenly he knows what it is and starts to calm down. And Haley HATES that, which I absolutely love to see!

The dynamic between these three continues to be fascinating. Bill might be with Haley now, but it’s clear Dani still has a hold on him that Haley can never match. Beyond The Gates excels at showing these complicated emotional entanglements without being heavy-handed about it.

Chelsea’s Surprising Romance and Other Developments

Chelsea, please! Apparently, Madison is actually really into her but has been insecure, thinking “I could never pull a high-fashion, world-class model.” Girl, I promise you, Chelsea isn’t what you think she is! She might look the part, but considering how Chelsea’s been chasing you this whole time, you should’ve known better.

The fact that Chelsea has zero self-esteem when speaking to this woman has me like, “Oh gosh,” but apparently they’re about to be a thing. Madison is queer or bisexual (however she identifies), and she does like Chelsea—she just thought Chelsea was out of her league!

Miss Girl, it’s obvious YOU’RE out of CHELSEA’S league, but I’m minding my business. As long as we don’t have to watch Chelsea chase her anymore, I’m fine with it. We need less Chelsea chasing, because I can’t take it anymore.

Meanwhile, Naomi is just the doting eldest daughter in this episode. She has a moment where she’s freaking out, and Jacob calms her down. I absolutely love their marriage—Jacob and Naomi’s relationship is my favorite in this whole series. They seem so equally yoked and well put together. Love that for them!

Then there’s Andre and Dani, who aren’t even official yet, but I still love them together. We get little bits and pieces of them when Andre’s at the hospital and Dani comes out of Bill’s room. They talk and mention meeting “back at my place,” which is refreshing because we usually only see them in bed or in the living room. Maybe we’re moving to a place where they’ll actually be out in public more.

Thomas and Leslie’s Failed Alliance

Early on, we see Tomas meet with Dana/Leslie, and he flat-out refuses to help her. No restraining order against Kat, no spying, no becoming her puppet like Bill Hamilton is to the Duprees. I don’t know what Leslie thought when approaching him, but I feel like she really just contacted him to plant the idea that he should take her “daughter girl” back.

At the top of the episode, we also see Caroline and Tomas, when he finds out Bill is in the hospital. But I’m not a fan of Tomas either, so whatever.

Beyond The Gates continues to deliver these intricate character dynamics and plot developments that keep me hooked week after week. The way the show balances multiple storylines while advancing the main plot around Leslie/Dana is masterful.
