‘Beyond The Gates’ Episode 67 Recap: Jacob’s Mental Warfare & Anita’s Concert Confusion

Jacob’s Psychological Warfare Against Leslie Thomas

Let’s talk about how Jacob is out here playing chess while Leslie is busy with checkers! This episode of Beyond The Gates was mostly setup, but honey, the setup was DELICIOUS. Jacob took that search warrant and marched himself right into Leslie’s house looking for evidence. And even though he didn’t find what he was looking for, this detective mastermind still grabbed some knickknacks just to send a message.

I’m here for this level of petty! It’s like Jacob was saying, “Don’t think I’m off your trail, slick hoe.” When you’re dealing with crazy, sometimes you gotta fight fire with a little flame of your own. That psychological warfare is exactly what Leslie needs right now.

Kat Richardson Needs to Stay in Her Lane

Girl, I love Kat’s enthusiasm for taking Dana/Leslie down, but ma’am… BOUNDARIES! Jacob has warned this girl multiple times, and what does she do? Sits her civilian behind at his desk at the police station like she’s collecting a paycheck from the department! I can’t with Kat right now!

No amount of True Crime YouTube videos, podcasts, or HGTV marathons is going to make you a detective, sweetie. The way she’s running around contaminating evidence and throwing her DNA all over crime scenes has me STRESSED. Jacob is crossing T’s and dotting I’s while Kat is about to blow this whole case wide open—and not in a good way.

I just know Kat’s overzealousness is going to cause problems with what should be an open-and-shut case. Jacob is the professional here, doing his job well, but Miss Girl can’t seem to respect the process. The audacity of thinking you can solve a case faster than actual law enforcement!

Eva Thomas and the Golden Ticket She Won’t Cash

Eva is over here having daddy-daughter time with Ted, talking about how she wants relationships with Nicole and Kat and the whole Richardson clan, yet she’s STILL holding onto that helmet? The math ain’t mathing, honey.

You want to be fully integrated into the Richardson-Dupree lifestyle while protecting your psycho mama? Make it make sense! That helmet is your golden ticket—it’s like Willy Wonka himself handed it to you saying, “Here, cash your ticket, baby.” But you’re not cashing it in!

I felt that frustration when Eva went to RV James and completely messed up Laura’s computer system on her first day back. Not only are you hiding evidence, but you’re also creating job security by making everything complicated? The girl is playing chess too, but with the wrong pieces.

Nicole and Ted’s Almost-Moment

Nicole and Ted had a little run-in at Uptown when she went to pick up food. Ted was there with Eva having their daddy-daughter time, and when Eva stepped away, Ted got his shot to talk to his wife. That was honestly the best we’ve seen them together in a minute! Nicole was starting to look smitten again, that little smirk giving away that she still yearns for her husband.

Ted was smooth with it too: “I’m gonna keep talking until you tell me to stop.” I was rooting for them! But then—DUN DUN—Dana’s messy behind pops up out of nowhere! The mistress-and-ass Leslie Thomas just HAD to appear and ruin the moment.

Nicole sashayed right out of there because she cannot fathom being in the same room with those two goofies for a second longer than necessary. Meanwhile, Ted is stuck listening to Dana trying to get a whiff of him or touch his hand. When does this lady sleep? She’s everywhere, being a menace at every turn, using all 24 hours in the day for evil instead of rest!

Eva Needs to Cut Ties with Her Mama

Eva’s whole “but this is my mom and I love her” act is getting tired. Your mama is running down to the hospital probably trying to delete security footage that incriminates her. Your mama is lying to Ashley and trying to manipulate her. Your mama is harassing Andre. Your mama is TOO MUCH CRAZY.

At some point, you’ve gotta stop dealing with this woman like she’s your mama and start treating her like the menace she is! She’s ruined her own life, partially ruined yours, and told you a whole lie about who your father was. Now you know Ted is your dad and have a chance at a new life with people who seem decent.

It’s time to throw mama right under the bus! But instead, all we hear is “mama, mama, mama.” Eva, turn the damn helmet in and get off my nerves, please!

Anita’s Concert Confusion Has Me Frustrated

The biggest part of this episode was watching Vernon continue to affirm Anita, helping her see she’s not 100% at fault and encouraging her to forgive herself for taking steps toward reconciliation. But then this woman has the nerve to say she doesn’t want to do the concert anymore?

Ma’am, you have BEGGED for this concert! You have literally dug up the bones of your terrible past. You’ve faced people’s criticism, blame, and everything else that comes with atoning for who you were back in the day. You’ve finally arrived at a place where everybody is on board.

But then when Sharon translates herself into your house with Tracy and Tower and asks what the problem is because they’re ready to do it, you holler “I don’t want to do it” and go off crying in the corner? This is LITERALLY what you wanted! Everything that was swept under the rug has been brought back out. You’ve dealt with it, seen whether you atoned, felt guilty and shameful.

Now you’ve come out the other side and gotten what you want, and you’re sitting there crying about how the concert is off? Girl, welcome to the fruits of your labor doing the real work! Yes, Sharon still has a goofy vendetta against you from 30 years ago, but you’ve done all the hard parts already. Walk into your garden of reward and do this concert so you can stop crying and whining about it!

Beyond The Gates continues to deliver the drama, even in setup episodes like this. I’m so glad to be back recapping for y’all, and I’ll be watching episode 68 immediately to keep us all on track. The way Beyond The Gates keeps me invested in these characters has me coming back week after week, even when some of them make me want to throw my remote at the TV!

I’m loving what Beyond The Gates is doing with these complicated relationships and the slow-burn revenge plots. Jacob’s detective work is giving me life, and I’m just waiting for Eva to finally do the right thing and turn in that helmet! Until then, I’ll be right here breaking down all the drama, the messiness, and the moments that make Beyond The Gates must-see TV.
