‘Zatima’ Season 4 Episode 2 Recap: Four Months Later and Everybody’s Still Trash

Finally, Real Season Premiere Energy

I’m not even gonna lie – I’m excited about this episode. After that lackluster season premiere that felt like leftover Season 3 footage, this four-month time jump is exactly what Zatima needed. The energy feels different, fresh, and we’re finally moving forward instead of watching Zac chase Jeremiah around Atlanta for the hundredth time.

Fatima is seven or eight months pregnant, looking like she’s about to pop any second, and we’re launched back into their lives with actual progression. This honestly should have been the season premiere, but you know, they do what they gonna do.

Zac Still Can’t Adult and Fatima’s Still Enabling

We start with Zac having this honey-do list that he clearly has no intention of completing. This man hasn’t grown or changed one bit. Here’s Fatima, big as a house, still having to chase behind this grown man to take out the trash and put clothes in the dryer. She’s threatening him, managing their business, and doing everything while extremely pregnant.

At this point, I’m convinced Bryce and Preston are carrying their entire real estate business because Zac can’t even handle basic household responsibilities. If anything, with Fatima this pregnant, he should be handling EVERYTHING at home.

The Mysterious Case of Missing Michael

We haven’t seen Michael in a month of Sundays, and suddenly there’s an aunt trying to take custody from both Zac and Heather. But wait – didn’t they already take full custody from Heather? When did they start sharing custody again? Because after that chicken nuggets scene, Michael basically vanished from the show.

The conversation about whether to fight for custody reveals something telling. Zac feels disconnected, like he hasn’t been able to be the father he wanted to be. Fatima says “because of circumstances” he hasn’t been able to get to know his son. What circumstances? Y’all swooped in, took that baby from the only mother he’d known when he was three years old, had him in this basic duplex Zac loves, and now we’re supposed to believe circumstances prevented bonding?

The Truth in What Fatima Doesn’t Say

I’m listening when y’all speak, and Fatima says multiple times in this episode: “You are going to be a great father.” You know what she didn’t say? “You ARE a great father.” This child isn’t even Zac’s first child – hell, might not even be his second depending on the timeline with Sisters.

She’s speaking in future tense about a man who’s had at least a year with Michael in their custody. They put him in school, got him a nanny, did all these things, but Zac hasn’t built any relationship or connection. Why? Because he’s been too busy trying to kill Jeremiah, showing up at Karen’s salon acting jealous, and running down to that law firm. He’s doing everything but being a father.

Angela’s Dating Woes

Four months later and Bryce finally gets Angela’s revenge porn scrubbed from the internet – you know, those videos from the hidden cameras he put in her house without her knowledge. Now he’s throwing innuendos trying to get back with her, but she’s not having it.

Instead, she’s dating a bartender with the personality of a thumb. This is all they can find for Angela to do? This beautiful, amazing, employed, homeowning Black woman and this is her storyline?

Tony’s Guilt Money Mystery

One of the most interesting developments is Tony with that envelope of money. When Tyrone catches him, joking about robbing his own barbershop, Tony says he needs to “make some things right.” He takes thousands of dollars and leaves it at some elderly woman’s door in the projects.

I thought he was going to Connie since she’s fighting cancer alone, but no – it’s some random woman I don’t remember (or we have never seen). I’m thinking this might be connected to that man who tried to rob him that he had to put down. But if someone tries to rob you, why are you giving away thousands? Take it to the Lord in confession and keep your money, honey.

The Community That Abandoned Connie

The most important and infuriating part of this episode is Connie’s situation. Three months into chemo treatment with three more to go, and her doctor is begging her not to miss any more appointments. But she has nobody to watch her kids.

This is where I start throwing red flags at everybody. Last season ended with group hugs at the funeral, promises of sticking together, “we’re a community” speeches. But where’s that community now? Connie is literally fighting cancer ALONE.

Nathan’s too busy cheating on Lorie with Belinda. He saw firsthand what Connie’s going through at the hospital and probably hasn’t thought about her once. Nobody’s watching her kids, cleaning her house, cooking her food, or supporting her. Meanwhile, she was moving mountains last season, running after Zac’s erratic self.

Everyone Failed Connie, Including Fatima

I got beef with everybody, including Fatima. I get that you’re seven to eight months pregnant, but Connie held you down last season when things got rocky. Now she’s at the hospital missing chemo appointments, having to get double and triple doses because she can’t maintain her treatment schedule, and her regimen has to be extended – all because nobody showed up.

Zac gets a call from her and can hear something in her voice but doesn’t inquire because he’s a narcissistic, selfish fool. I’m on everybody’s ass this season because Connie deserves better than this fake community that only shows up for the drama but disappears when someone actually needs help.

Culture Concerns and Future Predictions

One last thing – Fatima talking about their baby being “cultured,” playing piano and all that. How’s the child going to be cultured when Zac won’t even let you stay cultured? We haven’t seen respect for your love of philosophy or poetry. He’s never taken you to a museum or art gallery.

I’m taking a wait-and-see approach because it’s giving “Fatima doesn’t stand on business about the things that matter.” You could be pulling him into a better life, but you’ve settled, which is why you’re running around the house at seven to eight months pregnant reminding a grown man about basic chores.

Zatima finally gave us forward movement with this episode, but it also exposed how this friend group continues to fail each other when it matters most. Connie fighting cancer alone while everyone else focuses on their petty drama is the perfect example of what’s wrong with these people. They love the performance of community but can’t deliver when someone actually needs support.
