Carl Weber’s The Family Business: Season 5, Episode 3

What’s good, y’all? Let’s dive right into the third episode of Carl Weber’s The Family Business’s fifth season. This one’s going to be a bit shorter than usual because, like I’ve mentioned before, Carl Weber tends to use the first few episodes of a season to set up the storylines we’re going to focus on. This episode continued along that line, grounding us back with the Duncan family, our favorite crime syndicate.

Paris, Niles, and the Love that Could’ve Been

The episode starts with a revelation about what transpired between Paris and Niles. We finally find out what happened after Paris decided to take a breather after causing chaos in the first two seasons. She’s conversing with Niles, who’s hinting at a proposal and expressing excitement about meeting her family. However, he has to leave for his next job, which happens to be LC Duncan, Paris’s father.

Now, if Paris loves Niles and Niles loves Paris, why wouldn’t she give him a chance to turn down the job? It’s given no sense. He could’ve also provided her with the name of who put the contract out on her dad. Paris, you are not solving the problem of who’s trying to kill your daddy. You’re just killing the love of your life.

Paris has been a source of stress from the start. She’s cute, witty, sassy, and far too spoiled. But when she starts getting people in trouble and putting lives in danger, that’s when I start to have smoke for her. Her rash decisions, emotional reactions, and failure to fully assess situations have led to many problems. Now, she’s created this problem specifically for herself, thinking that she was solving a problem for her dad.

LC Duncan’s Unpredictable Moves

Shifting gears to LC Duncan, he wakes up proud of himself. He’s got his groove back, thanks to the ginseng and his recent killing spree. But something’s not right with LC. He’s changed, and while he’s masking it beautifully, something’s off. He’s on the phone with the sheriff, casually admitting to murder. LC, why invite trouble if you’re just going to anger it?

LC takes out another competitor from the south in a slick way, so it can’t be traced back to him. He’s feeling himself so much that he needs to get it on on the way home when Chippy comes to pick him up. I don’t trust where LC’s mind is at in this episode.

Roman: A Potential Threat?

In this episode, we get a lot more of Roman, a character who could potentially be an antagonist to the Duncan family. He’s focused on getting money and saving his mom’s life, who’s in the hospital. But he’s also easily distracted by the promise of a party, which makes me wonder where his character is headed.

Rio and Nevada: The Duncan Lite

Then there’s Rio and Nevada, who really irritated me this episode. They’re running around doing stupid stuff for no reason, and doing it terribly. Rio is so fixated on Lojack, but why? And Nevada, stick to Curtis and stay away from Rio, because we can’t lose you.

Junior: The Clown of the Family

And speaking of clowns, let’s talk about Junior. He’s still at the Hellfire Club, letting these girls touch him. I know that you’ve cheated on Sonya while you were there, Junior. You’ve ruined your marriage within days of getting married, for what? For Donna? You look like a clown, Junior. A clown.

Donna’s New Alliance

Lastly, let’s talk about Donna’s new alliance with Dominique. They’re planning to take down the Duncans, but I doubt that Donna will actually help pull the trigger. She wants to be included, respected, and acknowledged. The moment the Duncans give her that, Marie, your plan is dead in the water.
