Poor Andre! Poor Lucious! Poor Cookie! Poor Rhonda! Wednesday night’s episode of Empire had fans feeling a little bad for everyone (except Camilla). I don’t think anyone felt bad for her, especially Cookie.

It’s that time of the week, where we get to sit back, kick up our feet and attempt to wrap our heads around the latest episode of Fox’s Empire. First on the agenda, Lucious is back at it again, ripping his family apart seems to be a hobby of his. After threatening to end Hakeem’s life, almost ruining Jamal’s chances of winning his first award, this week he comes for Andre.

Lucious decided to put the truth behind the horrors of his childhood in his music video, featuring his award nominated song “BOOM BOOM BOOM.”  Cookie helps Lucious pick the woman portraying his mother (Kelly Rowland) and his younger self in the video. We can see that Lucious has a hard time getting over what happened to him and it might explain his inability to show affection towards his sons.

While watching the rough cut of Lucious’ video, Andre begins to have flashbacks of when he almost killed himself. Upset that Lucious hid the truth about his mother’s disease, Andre begins to lose it. The moment Lucious called his mother a “nut job” and admitted he is embarrassed of both her and Andre was a hard scene to watch.

Later, while Cookie’s first birthday in 17 years outside of the grim walls of prison has been ruined, Tiana and Laura are having their own onstage/offstage beef. Personally, Laura is adorable but is she right for Hakeem? That’s debatable. Tiana has been slaying songs since she’s been signed to Empire and now that she’s on tour, she has a few more things to handle than just her music. Laura is going over her time during her performances and although we love the girl group and their mimosas, Tiana isn’t having it.

Hakeem does his best to defuse the hostility between Laura and Tiana and just when you think things couldn’t get any more complicated, what does Hakeem do? Yes, that actually happened, he PROPOSED to Laura in front of fans and paparazzi. Where is an emoji when you need one? And can we please just take a moment to obsess over the size of the ring! It was so beautiful and this clearly wasn’t a spare of the moment thing since he already had the ring ready. The mood changed a little when the camera’s turned to Tiana’s face, not sure if that was the look of jealousy, regret or worry. Nonetheless, how intense was that trio performance of Hakeem, Tiana and Laura? Loved it!

Despite Empire fans yelling at the TV screen to get Rhonda to see Anika for who she really is, the episode ends with Rhonda getting into Anika’s car and deciding to stay with her for a few days to escape the Lyon family drama. To cap off this dramatic episode, Cookie finally learns that Freda Gatz is Frank Gathers (Chris Rock) daughter. She is seen panicking in the hallway, after she remembers that not too long ago Lucious killed Frank Gathers and if Freda were to ever find out, things might end in a bloodbath.

That’s it for now! So many unanswered questions, but stay tuned Empire fans, next Wednesday is approaching fast.
