Kate Brosnahan Spade, the co-founder, designer and namesake of the designer brand Kate Spade, started the company –with Joel Franklin– with the search for the perfect handbag. This step took Kate Spade New York from being solely a handbag retailer to an all-round designer brand.

Despite the expansion to include clothing, handbags, jewelry, shoes, stationery, eyewear, baby, fragrance, tabletop, bedding and gifts, Kate Spade’s bags remain one of the brands’ pride and joy. These bags are mostly recognized for its crisp color, graphic prints and playful sophistication which has attracted celebrity clients including; Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyonce Knowles, Isla Fisher, Hale Berry, Emmy Rossum, Anne Hathaway, and Gisele Bundchen. Throughout her career Spade won several awards including the CFDA “America’s New Fashion Talent in Accessories” and “Best Accessory Designer of the Year“ . 

Currently there are more than 45 retail shops across the United States and nearly one-hundred internationally.
