Olivia Wilde Breastfeeds for Glamour

While breastfeeding in public has caused quite the debate on Facebook and other social media platforms, Cover Girl Olivia Wilde is making quite the statement on the September cover of Glamour. Though many celebrities have been photographed naturally feeding their children—Gwen Stefani and Miranda Kerr to name a few—Olivia’s cover is still stirring debate.

Her goal of this shoot was to make readers aware that her identity has changed now that she has become a mom. Life isn’t just about her anymore since newborn Otis was welcomed into the world.Olivia and Otis_EricaVain

She said,

Breastfeeding is the most natural thing. I don’t know, now it feels like Otis should always be on my breast. Being shot with Otis is so perfect because any portrait of me right now isn’t complete without my identity as a mother being part of that.

Baby Otis just reached his 5 month mark, and appears naked in the high fashion photos.

Responses surrounding he image have been mixed. Some labeled Wilde their hero, or said she’s an inspiration for women. Pther people have thanked her for representing motherhood and the importance of providing babies with natural breast milk.

Then there’s the commenters who have lashed out at the magazine’s inappropriateness, misrepresentation, and glamorization of real life. But the outspoken actress saw those comments coming and addressed them in the photo’s caption.

She said,

It felt like we were capturing that multifaceted woman we’ve been discussing—that we knwn we can be. You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexu and self-possessed. I mean, I certainly don’t really look like that when I’m breastfeeding. And there’s usually a diaper involved.

VAIN readers, what do you think of the Glamour cover: Is it making a statement or did it go too far?

Olivia Wilde is amazing! She makes being a mother look so fantastic! Plus, thank you to her for sticking up for women! I cannot count the variety of articles I have ready about people talking about how gross it is. Come on, it is natural and something that is part of human nature.
