Hollywood’s Golden Night: Golden Globes 2015
Well, the 2015 awards show season has arrived. On Sunday, January 11 we got our first taste of high fashion and acceptance speeches at the Golden Globes 2015. From George Clooney and his wife, Amal, to Julianne Moore to Prince it seemed as though majority of Hollywood’s royalty decided to make an appearance. The whole show went off without a hitch and the most talented actors, actresses, and directors left with huge honors.
The Red Carpet dazzled with lots and lots of gorgeous high-end designer gowns. Some of the most gorgeous fashions were showcased on some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Jennifer Lopez, for instance, looked absolutely stunning in a Zuhair Murad silver kaftan-style gown which accentuated all of her curves. Only J-Lo’s body could look that hot in that much material.
A personal favorite of the night was Julianne Moore, who showed up in a glitzy, silvery ombre-colored Givenchy Couture gown that popped next to her fair skin and red hair. At 54 years old Moore definitely still has it all going on.
Emma Stone continued the sexy red-head trend showing up in a chic Lanvin jumpsuit proving that less can be so much more. The 26 year-old comedic actress was nominated for her supporting role in Birdman.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey opened the show as hosts with witty banter and hilarious jokes. I mean, how can we expect anything less? The duo certainly wowed us in the past, so it only made sense that this was their THIRD time hosting. Their opening routine consisted of jabs at recent news-making stories such as North Korea’s recent threats against Sony Picture’s The Interview.
“Tonight we celebrate all the great television shows that we know and love, as well as all the movies that North Korea was okay with,” said Fey.
The two also joked about George Clooney winning the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the film industry, even though his wife, also in attendance, served on more human rights boards than one could imagine. They couldn’t leave out the Bill Cosby sexual assault scandal out, though.
“In Into The Woods Cinderella runs from her prince, Rapunzel is thrown from a tower for her prince, and Sleeping Beauty just thought she was getting coffee with Bill Cosby,” joked Poehler.
The audience oooh’d and ahhhh’d at the Bill Cosby comment, as people typically do at a good insult, but collectively laughed nonetheless.
The most surprising appearance of the night was Prince, who presented the award for Best Original Song. Prince stole the stage with his fabulous outfit which was accessorized by a fabulous silver cane. As is usually the case, Prince didn’t really have to say a whole lot, yet he wowed even the other stars in the room who applauded thunderously for his presence.
A more heart-felt moment came when the award for Best Actress In A TV Series, Musical or Comedy. Gina Rodriguez, nominated for the very first time, won the Golden Globe for her role in Jane The Virgin. Her gratitude truly showed as she made her way onto the stage with tears of joy to give her acceptance speech. You could see her mouthing the words, “Wow! Wow!” as she excitedly made her way to the mic.
As the night came to a close, the much-anticipated award for Best Motion Picture, Drama was announced. The 12 years of hard work certainly paid off for Boyhood‘s cast and crew. They were presented with the prestigious award.
With Hollywood’s golden night under our belt, we can only imagine what the next few awards shows, such as Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Oscars, will have in store for us.
