In support of the 2012 Obama Presidential Campaign fashion leaders worldwide have constructed a plan to turn ordinary social activities into fundraising events for the President’s re-election. Kicking off the events on Wednesday Sept. 19th Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and renowned designer Tom Ford hosted a dinner party at the private Mark’s Club in London off of Berkley Square. The event, costing $15,000 a plate, housed 55 guests in support of the Obama Victory Fund 2012. Attendants include co-host Gwyneth Paltrow who sported a Tom Ford dress, Cameron Diaz, and Natalie Massanet.
A week later Ms. Wintour was the face behind a second fundraising effort, this time in the fashion capital of the world. Paying a $2,500 cover charge and $10,000 a plate, Celebs for Obama including Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger, and Mr. West himself (Kanye that is) took part in contributing $350,000 to the Obama Victory Fund. The event was held in the building of Kenzo Takada’s former home La Maison 8. Ducked off on a very low key street in the city, the venue worked perfectly at keeping this private reception private. Guests dined as Scarlett Johannson gave a speech in support of Obama’s election campaign and the lovely Ms. Lopez stole the show in a fitted poppy red Haakan dress.
